Why Wait to Elevate?
Are you a person who uses New Year’s Day to make a change and better your life?
Why wait to elevate? You don’t need a ball drop, a champagne toast, or a new bullet journal to start moving toward your tomorrow.
All you need is a DULA.
What is a DULA?
Before you ask, no, I didn’t spell “doula” wrong – though it is inspired by the concept.
A birth doula helps bring a baby into the world. A book doula helps you publish your big idea. And a DULA?
It helps you bring the next version of yourself to life.
The DULA Framework: How It Works
D – Define
What’s the change you want to make? Be specific.
- What does success look like for you?
- How will your life improve when you reach your goal?
- Who else in your life benefits from this transformation?
U – Understand
What’s your starting point? Take stock of your current reality — honestly.
- What are you already doing well?
- Where’s the gap between where you are and where you want to be?
- Awareness is your secret weapon.
L – Learn
What steps will it take to get from here to there?
- Research.
- Find tools, strategies, and examples from people who’ve walked this path before.
- There’s no need to reinvent the wheel.
A – Act
Ah… the magic word.
- Brainstorm ALL the possible steps you could take toward your goal.
- Set a timer for 3 minutes, and list every action, big or small. (Yes, even the ones that seem ridiculous – tell your inner critic to zip it!)
- When you’re done, pick 3 – 4 small, easy wins.
- Then, choose ONE to act on today.
Your First Step Toward Transformation
That’s it. Your DULA has delivered the first step in your transformation.
Why the DULA Approach Works
If you’ve been a long-time subscriber to New Year’s Resolution Day traditions, you know the most important thing is momentum. Just one action to get the wheels turning.
But as professionals, family members, and just plain humans, there are a lot of external and internal voices that may create reasons that keep you from moving forward.
That’s the beauty of DULA. It skips the excuses and cuts straight to the part where you do something.
Let Go of Perfectionism
(By the way, I know DULA isn’t a perfect acronym. But guess what? My DULA journey includes freedom from perfectionism, so I’m leaning into “close enough” – and you can, too!)
Your Turn: What Will You Do Today?
So, here’s the big question if you’d like to play along:
What’s the first action your DULA will help you take today?
Love and light,
Tami
